The IUI Collective
In order to create a seamless IUI service for the NYC community, Chloë Lubell and Jenna Hutchens of Cosmos Midwifery & Shira Moss of Frida Care are teaming up to create the IUI Collective.
What is the IUI Collective?
The IUI Collective is made up of Shira, Chloë, Jenna, and a number of back-up midwives to provide IUIs 24/7 throughout the year. We’ve come together in order to make a commitment to be able to cover IUIs any time, day or night, on week days, weekends, and holidays, in every neighborhood of Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and the Bronx.
How does this impact me?
Depending on where you live and what type of sperm (fresh or frozen) you are using, you will initiate care with either Chloë or Shira, and we will guide you through the process with clear communication about who you can expect to provide your IUIs.
If you live in:
Greenpoint and Williamsburg, we recommend that you initiate care with Chloë and Jenna (Cosmos Midwifery)
The rest of Brooklyn, we recommend you initiate care with Shira (Frida Care)
Both Cosmos Midwifery and Frida Care provide IUIs for people using frozen sperm (whether from known or anonymous donors), but only Cosmos Midwifery provides IUIs for people using fresh sperm (whether from an intimate partner or known donor). So, if you are using fresh sperm, initiate care with Chloë and Cosmos Midwifery.
But what if I don’t live in Brooklyn, or I don’t want an IUI in my home?
You’re in luck! You can get care with either Frida Care or Cosmos Midwifery and have your IUIs in either Shira’s cozy home office in Clinton Hill, or Chloë & Jenna’s comfortable Greenpoint office. Both have strict COVID precautions in place to protect you during this intimate time, allowing you a home-like environment to calm your body & mind before and after the procedure while still prioritizing your safety.
Why is this care different from an Infertility Clinic?
Instead of treating each person as if they are infertile and pushing them through the conveyor belt of traditional infertility care, we take care to tailor our care to your needs and priorities. There are no requirements for care, no routines, no policies about what must be done. We can choose to add any laboratory tests, imaging (such as ultrasound or HSG), supplements, herbs, or other interventions as appropriate for your specific journey.
What visits can I expect?
The kind of preconception care we provide is innovative and comprehensive and is based on the prenatal care model. This means that we start with the Initial Preconception Care visit, and schedule follow up visits ahead of time in order to provide emotional and logistical support and guidance on an ongoing basis during our scheduled visits.
The Initial Preconception Care Visit is a required first step to working together for all packages. We will take a full health history, review any blood work you may have, discuss how to identify your fertile window, make recommendations to support your body, create an individualized fertility enhancement plan, and review logistics on working together in this process.
Afterward, we have a few options for follow up check-in visits that could be 30-60 minutes depending on your needs, which will offer protected time for us to continue answering your questions as you dive into this journey of conception and fertility. We'll review your charts as you record them, and we'll make plans for any ongoing health and lifestyle changes in order to best support your fertility.
What are the available packages?
For everyone entering our care, whether they are planning to use Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) or only work with us for fertility support while they conceive on their own, they start with one of the following three packages:
Initial Preconception Care visit + three 30 minute follow ups over the course of two months = $595
Initial Preconception Care visit + one 30 min follow-up within one month = $450
After the Initial visit (regardless of the timing of the scheduled follow up visits), we can begin IUIs:
Each intrauterine insemination in-office: $600
Each intrauterine insemination at your home: $800
*If these fees are a barrier to you receiving care, please read our Sliding Scale information here.
How many IUIs a month do you recommend?
For frozen sperm we generally recommend 2 IUIs (each with a vial of sperm, so a total of 2 vials per cycle) during your fertile period. For fresh sperm we usually recommend 1. That being said, we will always follow your lead on what is possible for you -- if one IUI makes sense for your budget then there is absolutely no requirement to do two! It's just our general recommendation so that we can be sure to cover the entire fertile window, since when we do one we are doing a little more guesswork with people's individual bodies.
Ok, I’m ready to sign up! What do I do next?
